Because Of You The lyrics ' six stones in my pocket ' go back many years I (Paul) was one day approached and offered lucky stones from a lady from the travelling community, for some coins.... many years later the phrase "six stones in my pocket, that's what I have today, for the cost of a sandwich, thats what the traveling lady says" kept coming around to fit with kind of half a song. I also had Because of you ....da da da etc....for a separate song and finally I happened to use the because of you as a chorus rather than a verse and it clicked together, the strong piano bass line lent it to a country feel which with the key (Sally was originally going to sing an octave higher) I sang it as low as I could which gave a raspy country feel that seemed to fit, so we went with it. So the first original BACK TWO Country song was born... Sally's beautiful harmonised ooo's across the chorus's, have their own ooo's solo at the end. I do still carry stones in my pocket which have been replaced in turn over the years, a friend told me that if you loose one then you don't need that stones attribute any more.....I don't know but like any charm they feel good to be around. |
